About PoP-O Books

Our mission at PoP-O Books is to help our children master the skills they need to excel in the area of reading comprehension. It’s all about deepening the reader’s understanding through the use of quality learning materials created by Tanya Popovski, a passionate educator. Established in 2017, our book series provides an invaluable resource for both parents and educators to ignite discussion and encourage their children to learn through conversation.

Thank you for the text packs. Worked a treat with my lower levelled readers. It was easy to understand and follow. I particularly liked how it identified where to prompt the students, with what skill, as it made it really simple to apply the comprehension strategy focus.
— Year 5 teacher (Oran Park Primary School)
The resources are going really well. The kids have finished ‘Harry the Fly’ and this week we started ‘The Pretend Friend’. We’re finding that the kids are responding well to the questions and we’re also using the text as a basis for spelling and writing activities. The tracking sheets have been useful too, but we’re finding that it is easier to fill them out retrospectively as the kids are engaged in conversation with us during the reading comprehension sessions. It’s working well in small groups as all of the students have an opportunity to read aloud and have some input into the discussion about what they’ve read. All in all we’re really pleased with how it’s going. The books and teacher questions are great!!
— Mrs Amanda Meizer (St.Joseph's Catholic High School)
The students I worked with responded well. They were able to comprehend the text easily and said it gave them a better understanding of anxiety. I really liked the Question Guide...made it easier for me to pull apart the text with students.
Would like some more!
They were really great with predicting and inferring. They could make connections with the term anxiety as they had experienced it in some form. Also the idea of linking anxiety to an overnight trip made it relatable to the students. I really like the colour coded strategies/questions, so I knew what strategy it linked to. I could then make some of my own questions also to lead further discussion in the group.
— Michelle Skinner (Classroom Teacher Oran Park Primary School)
My first lesson with Amelia Faces Her Anxiety Teacher Pack was a huge success! The interactive prompts in the Question Guide are so straightforward that any individual, regardless of a teaching background, can use these exercises. The Tracking Sheet tops off the pack as it enabled me to identify where my students were struggling and assisted in targeting teaching. My students and their parents have been equally impressed with the relatable stories in the PoP-O Books resources. I will undoubtedly be recommending them to all my friends and parents of middle primary students. I look forward to the continual use of PoP-O Books.

I can’t believe how in-depth and to what level Tanya Popovski has gone to, to create such a user friendly reading book and question guide. Nothing has been forgotten or left out in this new series! It’s a must book for any teacher who has to prepare kids for #NAPLAN or has kids who struggle with reading comprehension.”
— Annalise Farrugia (St.John's Catholic Primary School)
In working with 2 groups, one of average reading levels (level 28/29) with average comprehension -these students coped quite well. I was able to identify that the main idea was a general weakness. In working with readers of reading levels (26/27) needing further comprehension development, I found that they struggled and needed support, it took quite a while to get through the books. Overall the students enjoyed the ‘conversation about reading’ and slowing the whole guided reading experience down to explore comprehension at a deeper level.
— Amy Sammut (REC St.Patrick's Catholic Primary School)
Some students are starting to give better, informed answers. They are understanding the importance of text based evidence for answers.
— Bruna (Middle primary teacher)
I have learnt so much about my student and where I need to teach him further
— Anne (Upper Primary Teacher)
I have enjoyed this group because it will teach children lessons or gives advice on what to do if an emotion takes control of you
— James - Year 4 student
I have learnt way more about comprehension to help me when I am doing my NAPLAN
— Sara - Year 3 student
