Note from the Author
My stories are different to most. I begin by looking at the proficiencies young readers often have trouble with BEFORE I begin the writing process. That way I can design each story to ask the type of questions that children need to confidently answer when focussing on Reading Comprehension. The basis of the majority of the stories stems from my experience as a teacher, making them wonderful prep for NAPLAN in addition I also draw on my experiences as a Restorative Justice Coach when considering the subject matter.
The grading section in the back of each book is purely a marker, as a teacher and a parent you will know that not all children are the same and therefore it is best to focus on the competency level as a reader and then determine the needs in regards to developing comprehension skills.
Tracking Sheets
The tracking sheets have many uses...
visual representations of patterns of the levels of thinking applied and the markers and outcomes achieved. It is easy to see across time the markers, allowing for planning, to explicitly teach those areas of weakness and build on areas of strength.
a good source of feedback when reporting or planning for literacy
Tracking sheets can be filled in by School Support Staff or parent volunteers as the questions in the Question Guide have a superscript number to indicate the corresponding marker on the tracking sheet.
